I’ve always been attracted to small antique objects, and I’ve collected them for decades…even before I began painting. I choose them for their individuality, their visual appeal, mystery, or humor. I like objects that have some wear which gives them a history and character. Another reason they appeal to me is that they come from a time that I fantasize was more innocent and simple. Many things from those times reflect a great amount of labor and craftsmanship. The craftsmen have taken the time to make them decorative. After I choose the objects, I arrange them in a composition that coordinates color, form or theme. Then painting the objects becomes contemplative. I want to bring the viewer a sense of serenity, beauty, and contemplation.
